By Robert Simonson25 Aug 2006New World Stages, the Off-Broadway complex in Midtown, will host an exhibition entitled "Francesco Scavullo: A Photographic Retrospective" beginning Sept. 28 and continuing through Nov. 2.
Francesco Scavullo, who died in 2004, was a celebrity photographer who shot every cover of Cosmopolitan for thirty years and created numerous photographs for Vogue, Rolling Stone, Interview, Town & Country, Seventeen, Harper's Bazaar, Elle and other top fashion magazines.
Among his subjects were Grace Kelly, Brooke Shields, Rene Russo, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Paulina Porizkova, Cindy Crawford, Burt Reynolds and Madonna. He conceived movie posters and album covers for Edgar Winter, Diana Ross, and Barbara Streisand. Scavullo's photographs are part of the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, Guggenheim and the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Gallery’s inaugural exhibition featured the work of photographer Patrick McMullan.
The Gallery at New World Stages will be open Monday through Saturday, from 11 AM to 6 PM, as well as one hour prior to and after performances at New World Stages. The Gallery entrance is located at 343 West 49th Street.
